In addition to MIT’s general Postdoctoral Association (PDA), there are several postdoc groups and associations connected to specific departments, research locations, or communities, including:
- Building 46 Community (BCS)
- Building 68 Biology postdocs
- Whitehead Institute Postdoctoral Association
- Chemistry Postdoc Association
- Black Postdoc Group
- Postdoc Organization for Women Engaged in Research
- qtPhD’s, a group supporting the LGBTQ+ community, as well as their allies
Additional resources for postdocs are available from the National Postdoc Association (NPA).
Keeping track of all the postdoc groups at MIT can be challenging, but the PDA is eager to connect with and support them. If you’re aware of any additional groups, please reach out to us at pda-www@mit.edu.
In 2021, the PDA with approval from the Office of the Vice President for Research created a new type of group at MIT, a ‘Recognized Postdoc Group’. These groups are supported by the PDA, but maintain their own activities. These groups are intended to provide more targeted support for postdocs without needing to exist separate of the Postdoctoral Association. The groups supported here existed prior to official recognition in 2021, but new groups could be added. If you would like to learn more about Recognized Postdoc Groups and creating a new group, please refer to the PDA Bylaws.
