BIO: Dr. Stefano Santaguida did his PhD studies in the lab of Andrea Musacchio at the European Institute of Oncology (Milan, Italy) where he studied the molecular mechanisms underlying the proper execution of mitosis, focusing in particular on the functions of the mitotic kinases Aurora B, Haspin and Mps1. Three years ago Dr. Santaguida joined the lab of Angelika Amon, where he is interested in understanding the consequences of chromosome segregation errors on cell physiology. Currently, he is working in the Amon Lab at MIT.

RESEARCH OVERVIEW: Uneven chromosome segregation leads to a condition known as aneuploidy, in which cells carry an abnomal karyotype that diverges from a multiple of the haploid complement. Dr. Stefano Santaguida is interested in studying the effects of an abnormal chromosome number on cell physiology and, in particular, on the effects on protein homeostasis.
