Dr. Ozan Aygun is presenting at the Postdoc Seminar Series on April 15th. His presentation is titled “Spatially-resolved live-cell proteomics to probe human health and disease”.

BIO: Dr. Aygun obtained his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara. During his undergraduate research he worked in the laboratories of Prof. Ingrid Grummt at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg and Prof. Uta-Maria Bauer at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Tumor Research (IMT), Marburg, where he investigated the impact of histone deacetylation and arginine methylation on chromatin structure and gene expression. He completed his graduate studies in the research group of Dr. Jesper Svejstrup at the London Research Institute and University College of London (UCL), where he discovered tumor suppressor protein RECQL5 as a novel transcription factor in human chromatin. Prior to joining MIT, Ozan served as a visiting fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI/NIH), Bethesda. At NIH, he worked with Dr. Shiv Grewal and established the role of histone deacetylation in the epigenetic stability of heterochromatin domains through suppression of histone turnover. Since September 2013, he has been working in the laboratory of Prof. Alice Ting at MIT, Department of Chemistry. His research interests include epigenetic inheritance, chromosome biology, biomarker science and personalized medicine.
